Viscore laser is a buried heterostructure design with an innovative Gain-Coupled DFB (GC-DFB) feature different from standard DFB lasers.
The GC-DFB feature has unique advantages: Improved tolerance to optical reflection in the absence of an optical isolator; Improved optical mode stability resulting in better optical performance and wafer yield. DFB lasers have a long established history of excellent reliability. It is widely deployed in the telecommunication industry since the early 1990s. Over the last 20 years, DFB laser failures modes and aging mechanisms have been extensively studied, well understood, and effectively addressed. Wafer growth and fabrication processes and techniques have advanced and improved tremendously.
