Viscore Technologies Inc. developed an in-house buried heterostructure (BH) gain-coupled (GC) distributed feedback (DFB) laser for use in its transceiver product family.  Comparing to conventional index-coupled (IC-) DFB lasers, GC-DFB lasers are more tolerant to optical reflections. This makes them ideal for optical isolator-free transmitter/transceiver applications, with significant potential for cost and space savings.
