Viscore Develops New DFB Laser - May 20, 2010

Viscore Technologies Inc., a global photonics supplier with headquarters in Ottawa, Canada, today announced it has successfully developed an in-house buried heterostructure (BH) gain-coupled (GC) distributed feedback (DFB) laser for use in its transceiver product family.

When compared to conventional index-coupled (IC-) DFB lasers, GC-DFB lasers are more tolerant to optical reflections. This makes them ideal for optical isolator-free transmitter/transceiver applications, with significant potential for cost and space savings. "Our laser design and wafer growth/fabrication team has a proven track record of developing reliable and high performance lasers for volume deployment in the telecom industry. We are extremely pleased to be able to develop this in-house laser technology in a world class facility right here in Ottawa. This will become a key differentiator for Viscore's line of transceiver products." says Leon Liu, CEO of Viscore Technologies.

Viscore Technologies Inc. offers a broad portfolio of transceiver products, including SFP and XFP transceivers for enterprise and datacom applications, and video SFP transceivers for high speed video applications.

Viscore Technologies Inc. designs, manufactures and distributes photonics products that help clients transform optical networks. It provides leading-edge technology, worry-free access to a low-cost, Asian-based supply chain, plus design and engineering services for optimizing optical system product cost and performance.
