Viscore Announces Next-Generation Laser R&D Project - July 6, 2009
Viscore Technologies Inc., a global photonics supplier, has launched an advanced R&D project for a next-generation laser design that will enable low-cost, provisionable transceivers for high-volume metro-optical applications.
Following the recent announcement of its entry into the transceiver market with a complete family of GBIC, SFP, XFP, X2 and XENPAK transceivers for carrier, enterprise and datacom applications, Viscore has launched development of a differentiated laser chip technology in conjunction with a leading Ottawa-based optical R&D facility. With the support of a substantial government research assistance grant, the project is expected to deliver break-through optical functionality within a period of 12-18 months.
